Just stop doing it

December 20, 2016

It is time for the Government to get out of the “pay to play” game and get on with more important matters.

It has been painful, and can I say frustrating, to hear our Prime Minister continue to defend his party’s policy of organizing and facilitating meetings between key members of the cabinet and those willing to pay money to have exclusive access to these important decision makers.

Maintaining that no laws have been broken just isn’t good enough.

Perhaps things have changed since I retired from the civil service. But, I remember having to attend a seminar on conflict of interest at work where I was warned that as a government employee I was not to do anything that was a conflict of interest, not do anything that might appear as a conflict of interest, and not do anything that could become a conflict of interest. Trying to defend this controversial policy isn’t working.

Sir, with respect, the pain will go away when you stop hitting your head against the wall.
