Ottawa Now - City Council calls on Ford government to keep speeding cameras in school zones

October 22, 2025

Ottawa City Council is the latest municipality to wage a war against the Ford government over speed cameras. Earlier today, they unanimously passed a motion from Beacon Hill-Cyrville councillor Tim Tierney, calling on the province to keep photo radar cameras in school zones. Other cities, such as Brampton, have made similar requests in recent weeks. And in an effort to appease Premier Ford, the municipalities of Toronto and Burlington have offered to make changes to their programs. But if the province proceeds with the speed camera ban, multiple Ontario Mayors want reimbursements for the money they invested into this endeavour. Councillor Tierney joins Kristy Cameron on today's Ottawa Now.
