Here's everything Jimmy Kimmel said about Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk before his show was suspended

September 18, 2025

A late-night talk show hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel has been taken off the air after comments he made about Charlie Kirk.

In his opening monologue on Monday night , he poked fun at how U.S. President Donald Trump was “grieving” Kirk’s murder. He also called out “MAGA land” for trying to make suspect Tyler James Robinson seem like “anything other than one of them.”

The network, ABC, has not confirmed which remarks specifically led to the show’s suspension; however, reports from CNN , CNBC and USA Today attribute the comments to Monday’s show.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving,” Kimmel said at the two-minute mark of a nearly 10-minute monologue on Sept. 15.

“On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level you can see how hard the president is taking this.”

Kimmel then showed a video clip of Trump responding to questions from reporters. When asked how he was holding up, Trump said: “I think very good and by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They’ve just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get, as you know, for 150 years, and it’s going to be a beauty.”

The audience erupted into laughter as Kimmel continued: “He’s at the fourth stage of grief. Construction. There’s demolition, construction… This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish, ok? And it didn’t just happen once.”

Kimmel showed another clip of Trump, this time speaking on Fox & Friends, about when he found out that Kirk had been shot. “When I heard it, I was in the midst of building a great— For 150 years, they’ve wanted a ballroom at the White House, right? They don’t have a ballroom. They have to use tents on the lawn, for (Chinese) President Xi when he comes over. If it rains, it’s a wipe out.”

Trump said he was with architects when he was told about Kirk. “They said, ‘Charlie Kirk is dead.’ I didn’t know what they meant. I said, ‘What do you mean, dead?’ ‘Charlie Kirk was shot.’ They thought he was dead because it was so horrific, you know? And I said, ‘Dead!'”

The clip ended and Kimmel continued: “And then we installed the most beautiful chandelier. Sconces you wouldn’t believe.”

“There’s something wrong with him. There really is, I mean, who thinks like that? And why are we building a $200 million ballroom in the White (House). Is it possible he’s doing it intentionally so we can be mad about that instead of the Epstein list?”

Kimmel went on to speak about about FBI Director Kash Patel, who earlier this week attended an overview hearing before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee . Patel defended his handling of the Kirk assassination, and was asked questions on several topics, including the Epstein Files, a list of clients of the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted child sex offender.

Kimmel said Patel investigated Kirk’s murder like “a kid who didn’t read the book, BS-ing his way through an oral report.” He also poked fun at Patel’s appearance. “Kash Patel always looks like he just got hit by a Volkswagen,” said Kimmel.

Kimmel spoke about how divided the country was in the wake of Kirk’s death and commended Utah Governor Spencer Cox as a “rare voice of sanity.”

Kirk, a 31-year-old political activist, was killed on Sept. 10 . He was speaking on the Utah Valley University campus in Orem, UT when he was shot. He was a controversial figure for many of his stances, such as his views about the LGBTQ+ community as well as abortion and racism. However, he was an advocate for free speech, and was hosting a debate, engaging with an attendee, when he was murdered.

The 22-year-old suspect, Robinson, has been charged with aggravated murder, among other charges. As the investigation continues, Democrats and Republicans in the United States remain divided on what motivated the murder.

On Tuesday, Kimmel again spoke about Kirk in his monologue, starting at around six minutes and 12 seconds.

“Many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk,” said Kimmel on Sept. 16. “Yesterday, J.D. Vance, who himself famously called Donald Trump America’s Hitler, hosted the Charlie Kirk podcast from the White House, where he pointed his little mascara-stained finger directly at the left.”

Kimmel showed a clip of Vance saying: “While our side of the aisle certainly has its crazies, it is a statistical fact that most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far left.”

Kimmel continued: “And by statistical fact, he means complete bulls–t.”

Later in the monologue, Kimmel spoke about how Eric Trump, Trump’s son, was speaking about the relationship between Kirk and the president. Kimmel showed a video clip of the younger Trump saying Kirk was a “dear friend to my father” and “probably a second son to my father.”

“Wait, I thought you were the second son to your father,” Kimmel quipped.

On Wednesday, Kimmel’s show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was taken off the air. In a statement, a spokesperson for ABC said: “Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely,” CNN reported .

Last week, a day after Kirk was killed, Kimmel called the murder “senseless.”

“Thank you for joining us here in Los Angeles, the second largest city in our bitterly divided nation, where like the rest of the country, we’re still trying to wrap our heads around the senseless murder of the popular podcaster and Conservative activist yesterday, whose death has amplified our anger, our differences,” he said. “And I’ve seen a lot of extraordinarily vile responses to this from both sides of the political spectrum. Some people are cheering this, which is something I won’t ever understand.”

He mentioned there was another school shooting in Colorado, and called out Trump for not making “an attempt to bring us together.”

Also on Sept. 11, Kimmel posted on his personal instagram account to send his condolences to the Kirk family.

“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human? On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence,” he wrote.
