The Ottawa Heart Institute wants to screen one million Canadians for cardiovascular disease. It’s launching the ‘One Million Canadian Hearts Project’, a pioneering initiative to detect cardiovascular disease risk factors through early screening and swift intervention. And by harnessing this powerful data, experts are hoping that this 5-year strategic plan will uncover the grim realities of heart disease, while identifying which demographics are at risk and what factors shape various outcomes. Dr. Rob Beanlands is the CEO and President of the Ottawa Heart Institute. He joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.

A teacher in British Columbia who had exchanged hundreds of “increasingly personal and intimate messages” with a student has been banned from the job for 15 years. Between the two, more than 1,000 calls were made over the phone, according to a summary of the consent resolution agreement published Tuesday.
