Federal Court of Appeal reserves decision in ostrich farm avian flu case

The Federal Court of Appeal has wrapped up hearing arguments in an ongoing court case involving B.C. farmers and an order to have 400 ostriches culled for avian flu risk.

The Giller Prize will be forced to shut down at the end of this year without federal funding, according to the Giller Foundation. The annual $100,000 award for fiction, the richest in Canada, is in dire financial straits after its decades-long partnership with Scotiabank ended prematurely earlier this year. The Globe and Mail has learned the Giller Foundation is in the process of appealing to the federal government for funds.
