Canada Post workers called on to refuse overtime work as union continues to review latest offers

Instead of a strike, a nationwide overtime ban came into effect on Friday by the union representing more than 55,000

Postal workers
are now being called on to refuse to work more than eight hours a day
and more than 40 hours in a week as the union reviews latest offers from the Crown Corporation.

The decision by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) comes after the Crown Corporation
rejected the union’s offer
to delay a strike by two weeks
creating widespread uncertainty
, the union said.
“At this time, the Union has decided to proceed with an overtime ban to minimize disruptions to the public, and lost days to members,” the
union’s national president
Jan Simpson said in a statement.
