Power outages persist in hard-hit areas after Ontario ice storm

Some Ontario regions hard hit by last weekend’s ice storm may not recover power until the end of the week, Hydro One said Tuesday as crews and communities braced for more freezing rain in the coming days.The utility provider said power has been restored to more than 783,000 homes and businesses since the start of the storm, but its outage map still listed about 215,000 affected customers as of Tuesday night. Repairs in areas including Orillia and Peterborough could take until Friday.

Cornwall police say they responded to a call around 3 a.m. on McConnell Avenue where they found the victim after he was hit by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver fled the area in his vehicle.
