Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Fri. January 31st, 2025

January 31, 2025
The great ‘Trump Tariff’ watch of 2025 has been a major talking point across the country for several months now. Earlier today, rumours suggested that U.S. President Donald Trump would buy Canada more time, waiting until March 1st to launch his economic attack instead of this weekend. The White House has notified media outlets that those reports are not true, and tariffs on Canadian-made goods are expected for tomorrow morning. The PMO has not received official indication, but Prime Minister Trudeau says Canada is ready to launch its own counterattack once the tax button is pushed. He maintains that Canada’s actions will be forceful, but within reason and not to the extreme. CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent has more on that. Plus, we have reached Day 3 of the Ontario election campaign. Kristy Cameron delivers the latest soundbites and pledges from the campaign trail.
