Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. January 23rd, 2025

January 23, 2025
Karina Gould made the news official this morning, as she launched her leadership campaign for the Liberals’ top seat. We deliver some of the highlights in Hour 1. Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre says, if he’s elected Prime Minister, he would cut the number of federal public servants – but he doesn't mind if they work from home. As long as the important assignments are being completed, that’s the bottom line. Right now, he says we are falling short. Kristy Cameron gathers reaction from Sharon DeSousa, the National President of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, and Sean O’Reilly, the President of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada. Plus, the NCC is hoping to strike a deal with the Ottawa Senators on a new hockey arena by the end of this year. This comes after the team’s owner made it clear that the Sens are not abandoning ship on this plan. CTV’s Natalie Van Rooy has the latest on that.
