Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Wed. January 29th, 2025

January 29, 2025
Just before the new year rolled in, the Ontario Hockey Federation announced pending changes to its residency rules. Effective next season, more players have the freedom to choose where they play in Ontario markets, regardless of their skill level or their jurisdiction. This would apply to U-10 age groups and above across a quartet of Ontario-based hockey associations, ranging from AAA to House League levels. And while many argue that change is necessary, others fear that these alterations could disrupt hometown hockey as we know it. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with John Verdon, who is the President of the Oakville Rangers. Meantime, the federal government is reportedly planning a stimulus package to help businesses and Canadians if U.S. President Trump sticks with his tariff plans. However, the scale of those relief efforts will depend on the scope of Donald’s anti-Canadian tariffs. CFIB President Dan Kelly delivers his two cents on the matter. Plus, a healthy chunk of Ottawa’s East End is trying to navigate around the latest LRT inconvenience. Line 1 of the city’s O-Train system is currently out of service due to a gas leak near Blair Station, and it has been that way for several hours. We get the latest from CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent.
