How do you beef up a cellphone ban in a school classroom? You don’t give any exemptions, or hand out any mid-day ‘breaks’. From the start of the day, until the final bell sounds, no students have access to their cellular devices. And it appears the Quebec government is eager to implement this approach as soon as possible. The enforcement of these rules, however, will be decided by each and every school. Should Ontario entertain this full-blown approach as well? Kristy Cameron sifts through the textboard and tackles today’s Question of the Day. Plus, the Battle of...

The Ford government is examining involuntarily treatments for drug users, according to a pair of unnamed senior government sources. These mandatory drug treatments, per reports, would be available to addicts on probation, on parole, or in jail. The province has entered the costing process of this idea, and will start talking to the feds about how these measures could be enacted. When asked about her assessment of Premier Ford’s gameplan, NDP Leader Marit Styles says there needs to be more funding for the provincial courts, a must-have measure to keep violent offenders behind bars....

The Quebec government will be imposing an all-out ban on cellphones in the classroom. As to how these rules will be enforced and implemented, that will be up to the schools themselves. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Naomi Buck, a columnist for The Globe And Mail, in Hour 1. She has followed this topic religiously since the Ontario government vowed...

Once upon a time, the Ontario Teachers’ College curriculum took 12 months to complete. Thanks to a surplus of teachers in the early-2010s, the Liberals opted to extend the program in 2011. It was reset to 2 years and divided into 4 semesters. Then, all of a sudden, the admission rates plummeted. They went from over 7,000 in 2011 to just 4,500 in 2021, according to the Ontario College of Teachers. In 2025, early-career unemployment is approaching ‘statistically negligible’ levels, and those numbers are expected to get even worse once we reach 2027. Experts say there is...

U.S. President Donald Trump says a White House visit with Prime Minister Mark Carney will be organized over the coming days. In a post-election phone call, Trump offered his congratulations to Carney, feeling hopeful that the ongoing relationship will be a positive one. While it might be a departure from Trump’s online trolling, the results of the election were likely swayed because of the U.S. President’s rhetoric. So when that meeting of the minds does take place, a lot is riding on it. Jamie Ellerton is a Conservative strategist and the Founding Principal of Conaptus, a...
