Ottawa Now - Ontario's Premier issues open letter to Ontario Mayors as the war on speed cameras continues

October 7, 2025

Ontario Premier Doug Ford spoke with reporters earlier today following the release of his open letter to Ontario Mayors. He is calling for speed cameras to be tweaked so that they only ticket those who ‘egregiously’ speed. Furthermore, he only wants speed cameras to be operational during school hours, arguing that municipalities aren’t prioritizing a safety-first approach. Beacon Hill-Cyrville councillor Tim Tierney says, no matter what path is chosen between Queen’s Park and Ontario’s municipalities, speed cameras in school zones need to remain present. He joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.
