Quebec’s legislature opens as Legault’s political future appears grim

September 30, 2025

In a move mirroring similar initiatives in Ottawa and other provinces, Quebec Premier François Legault promised Tuesday to table legislation to speed up the approval process of major projects as he vowed to make his government leaner and more efficient.

Mr. Legault also said he will ask the province’s pension fund giant, the Caisse de dépôt et placement, to increase its stakes in the Quebec economy “to give ourselves the means for our ambitions.”
