Edmonton police want review of manslaughter plea deal in death of 8-year-old

The family of an eight-year-old girl killed by her stepmother in 2023 say they are putting their faith in Edmonton police to reverse what they say is a miscarriage of justice by the province’s Crown prosecutors in accepting a plea of manslaughter.

The girl’s relatives were speaking out after an emotional hearing in an Edmonton court on Wednesday morning, in which the 29-year-old woman formally pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of her eight-year-old stepdaughter.
