Wildfire in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley forces dozens of homes to evacuate

August 14, 2025

An intense, out-of-control wildfire in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley forced the evacuation Thursday of about 40 homes in the West Dalhousie area, where a lightning strike ignited nearby woodlands the night before.

The County of Annapolis issued a mandatory evacuation order just after 10 a.m., saying some residents on the West Dalhousie Road had to leave immediately as the flames from the Long Lake fire advanced to within four kilometres of their homes.
