The trouble started as school ended – not for everyone, but for David Schaffer. He was kicked out of public school, along with other Jewish kids in Romania under government decree in 1939. He had just started Grade 2.“I wasn’t expelled because I was a bad boy; being a good student and winning prizes didn’t matter then,” he recounted in A Kind of Resistance, part of the graphic novel But I Live: Three Stories of Child Survivors of the Holocaust.

OTTAWA — One of Israeli’s highest-ranking politicians says she understands that many people could be feeling déjà vu as the West faces another war in the Middle East over the threat of weapons of mass destruction.
The Toronto-born Sharren Haskel, now Israel’s junior minister of foreign affairs, was herself a young enlistee in Israel’s armed forces (specifically the border police) when then U.S. president George W. Bush and a coalition of allies invaded Iraq in 2003, vowing to destroy weapons of mass destruction, that were later found to be non-existent.

RCMP are hailing the conviction and sentencing of man in Nigeria who tried to blackmail a Surrey, B.C., teenager by posting his intimate images online, saying “sextortions and fraud” will not be tolerated by society.Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said Olukeye Adedayo was sentenced last week to prison terms totalling 76 years, after offences that the RCMP said resulted in the boy’s “sudden death” in February 2023.
