Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Tues. May 6th, 2025

May 6, 2025
It’s a highly-anticipated faceoff in Washington today, as Prime Minister Mark Carney shakes hands with U.S. President Donald Trump for the first time. This meeting of the minds follows last week’s federal election win for the Carney Liberals, who are trying to navigate Canada through a tense trade war against their North American neighbours. How do you think Carney handled himself in the Oval Office? Is there a pathway to peace between the two sides, and how long could it take? CTV News political analyst Tom Mulcair joins Kristy Cameron in Hour 1. Shifting gears back to that pivotal Canada-U.S. meetup at the Oval Office, U.S. President Trump reiterated his assertion that America doesn’t need Canadian cars. We get a vibe check from Flavio Volpe, the President of the Automotive Parts and Manufacturers Association.
