After a season of progress and promise, the joyride has ended for this year’s Ottawa Senators. They fell 4-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday night, dropping the best-of-seven series in 6 games. Despite a tearful ending to their first playoff appearance since 2017, fans cheered in unison and waved their towels with pride, as the focus shifts to October. Shifting gears to public transit, OC Transpo has recently rolled out its ‘New Ways To Bus’ network, an overhaul of the transit provider’s bus route system. Dozens of bus routes and route numbers have been changed, as connections to the O-Train and its surrounding neighbourhoods have taken a higher priority. In translation, there are fewer buses on Ottawa’s roadways. Does this mean an easier ride into work? We pose that question, and many others, to local documentary filmmaker Gio Petti. He is a regular transit user who has previously used his documentary skills to shed light on OC Transpo’s transit problems.
National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman would not say whether any of the five former world junior hockey players on trial for sexual assault in London, Ont. would be allowed to return to the league if they are acquitted.Speaking at a press conference in Edmonton ahead of the first game of the Stanley Cup Finals — and just days before closing arguments are set to begin in the players’ criminal trial — Mr. Bettman said that the league wants to let the court proceeding play out.
