Shooting in Saint John prompts ‘hold and secure’ at nearby schools

Schools in uptown Saint John were placed on “hold and secure” Tuesday morning as police searched for three suspects after an apparent shooting that left one man dead.Police responded to reports of gunshots at approximately 10:30 a.m. around King Square and found a 20-year-old male dead in a vehicle on Carmarthen Street, the Saint John Police Major Crime Unit said in a press release. Police then sent a request to “shelter in place,” as well as an emergency “alert ready” notification to mobile devices in the area as officers began to investigate.
Federal officials are warning that prolonged heat waves and lower-than-normal precipitation are expected to create conditions ripe for wildfires this summer, with hundreds already burning from Northwestern Ontario to British Columbia.A new wildfire this week has threatened Squamish, B.C. – often called Canada’s outdoor recreation capital – adding to more than 225 wildfires across the country, at least 102 of which are deemed out of control.

The application, filed in the Court of King’s Bench in Edmonton, alleges the health minister usurped power accorded to AHS directors when she ordered Ms. Mentzelopoulos’s firing in January.
