April 14, 2025
The Ontario Legislature has chosen its first-ever female Speaker ahead of Tuesday’s Throne Speech, in which Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government is set to lay out its agenda to address U.S. tariffs after his party won a third majority earlier this year.Monday marked the first day back in the legislature for MPPs after the Feb. 27 election, and they selected Donna Skelly, the PC member for the Hamilton riding of Flamborough-Glanbrook, as their new Speaker in a secret ballot.
The Saskatchewan NDP was joined by families and child-care workers at a rally to call on the Sask. government to sign the agreement to extend the $10-a-day child care deal.
