Carol McLean drove eight hours to Toronto to join one of Monday’s protests at U.S. consulates across Canada, partly because American tariffs directly impact her hometown.Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., is home to Algoma Steel, which laid off some workers earlier this month in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canadian steel.
Diane Dobson was walking along Prince Road shortly before 6 p.m. on Feb. 14, 1995. The following day, the 36-year-old’s body was discovered in a ditch in the Brighton Beach area.

Recent federal elections have prompted somewhere between 61 and 69 per cent of eligible voters to cast a ballot nationally. But as a letter to the editor of the Citizen recently declared: "That is not good enough. We must aim for a voter turnout in excess of 90 per cent to demonstrate that we care about our country and that, no matter what party we support, we will do whatever it takes to uphold Canada’s sovereignty."
