The topic of tariffs got another dose of gasoline this weekend, as U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed 25 percent tariffs on all steel and aluminum products. Yes, this list of countries includes Canada, but it’s a very long list of countries. Nevertheless, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has doubled down on a previous promise, vowing to impose dollar-for-dollar tariffs on American goods if he becomes Prime Minister later this year. Opher Baron, a Distinguished Professor of Operations Management at the University of Toronto, delivers his two cents.
