B.C.’s David Eby among premiers heading to Washington to tamp down Trump tariff threat

British Columbia Premier David Eby says he and his counterparts from across Canada will take leadership in the fight against threatened tariffs from U.S. president-elect Donald Trump.Eby says he and other premiers plan to go to Washington where Trump will be inaugurated this month to try to convince him to back away from his tariff plan.

Starting Tuesday, the United States will impose across-the-board tariffs of 25 per cent on Canadian goods and 10-per-cent tariffs on “energy resources.” The 25 per cent levy will also be placed on goods from Mexico, while Chinese goods will face an additional 10 per cent tariff. The Canadian government immediately announced retaliatory tariffs on many American products.Here is how Canadian premiers reacted on Saturday.
